REPORT OF THE MANAGING EDITOR AND BUSINESS MANAGER OF THE CANADIAN JOURNAL OF ANALYTICAL SCIENCES AND SPECTROSCOPY (CJASS). J.G. Sen Gupta

Publication and distribution of all six issues of Volume 46, 2001 of the Journal was completed in August 2002. Printing and distribution of CJASS, Volume 47, 2002, Nos. 1 and 2 was carried out in September and October, respectively. Printing of issue No. 3 is in progress. Preparation of the Galley Proofs for issue No. 4 is continuing. The Galley Proof of a manuscript for issue No. 5 has also been prepared.
Although subscriptions from institutional subscribers were reasonably good, only one regular Corporate Sponsor subscribed for the year 2002 instead of two. This has caused shortage of operating funds for the year 2002, and consequently a further subsidy from the SSC will be needed to publish all six issues of Vol. 47, 2002. In order to offset the shortage of revenue from Corporate Sponsors, an increase in 2003 subscription rates for the Journal has been approved.
To reduce the operating cost of the Journal (in the absence of a suitable low-cost commercial typesetter), I undertook the job of typesetting the manuscripts for Nos. 4-6 of Volume 46, 2001 and Nos. 1-3 of Volume 47, 2002. This has already achieved savings of $205 for each issue of the journal for a total of $1230 for 6 issues for 2001 and 2002. I have been also able to reduce the cost of printing each issue of the journal by printing a large number of colour covers in advance. At the moment, this is giving a saving of approximately $653 per issue starting from No. 2, Volume 47, 2002.
The income for CJASS Volume 46, 2001 was $33,227. The expenses up to Oct. 29/02 are $33,750. Thus there is a deficit of $523 for Vol. 46. For Volume 47, 2002 (up to Oct. 29, 2002) the income is $20,133 and the expenses (including budgeted items to complete Vol. 47) are $29,190. Hence there is an anticipated deficit of $9,057 As mentioned above this deficit is almost entirely due to the loss of one of the corporate sponsors.

COMPANY PROFILE - SCIENCETECH
Sciencetech is a Canadian manufacturer of modular optical spectroscopy instruments. In the last 17 years, scientists and engineers have relied on Sciencetech modular components to build custom spectroscopic systems or to upgrade existing spectroscopic systems such as Raman spectrometers, fluorescence spectrometers, infrared spectrometers, spectrophotometers and others. Sciencetech modular components include interchangeable light sources, mono-chromators, spectrographs, detector systems, sample chambers, and accessories. Applications support specialists are available to help with component selection and systems integration.
Sciencetech is proud to introduce its updated line of modular linear array photo-diode detectors and CCD array detectors that can be used to upgrade existing spectroscopic systems. Please see links to PDF files below for more information. These detectors can be attached to spectrographs (or monochromators) of various makes through an adapter plate, or directly to Sciencetech's extensive line of monochromators and spectrographs ranging from 100mm to 1.5m in focal length.
