EDITOR'S NOTES

This issue is a bit late due to my involvement with the move of the Department of Chemistry at Queen's to a new building (Chernoff Hall). I have been "downsized" to a cubicle in a shared office. Most of the equipment, chemicals and supplies that I accumulated during my 37 years at Queen's has been given away or thrown in the dumpster. However, I have been able to salvage my Raman set-up, which will be used in a physical chemistry teaching laboratory.

In this Newsletter, Diane Beauchemin reports on the excellent progress she has made with the Journal since taking on the job of Editor-in-Chief. (see page 4). Special Issues of the Journal will appear to honour the former Editors-in-Chief Ian Butler and Chak Chakrabarti. On page 5, Joy Sen Gupta reports on the business aspects and finances of the Journal.

This issue of the Newsletter also includes a Student Page edited by Student Representative Tina Mann.

I sadly have to report that Doug Russell one of the founding members of the Society died in March this year. Doug was made an Honorary Member of the Society in 1977. Shier Berman and Victor Boyko will be writing an obituary, which will appear in the next issue of the Newsletter
