I am the new President of the Spectroscopy Society of Canada. My main goal is to increase the membership of the SSC. To this end, I would like to extend to you a special offer. If you convince one person of joining the SSC before the end of your student membership, we will extend it for one year following your graduation i.e. you would continue to enjoy all the benefits at half the price of a regular membership, for one year. All you have to do is convince one person to join and let either me or the Membership Chair (Heidi Chen at Heidi.Chen@ec.gc.ca) know that this person joined because of you.

I would also like to take this opportunity to bring to your attention the new MDS Sciex Student Bursary Award(s), which you can use to convince a fellow student to join. An application form was included in the last Newsletter (we did not know then who the sponsor would be and that there would be several awards) and is also available here. Up to three awards, one in the amount of $400 and two in the amount of $300 will be given at the 50th ICASS (International Conference on Analytical Sciences and Spectroscopy), which will be held in Halifax in August 2004. Please plan to attend this conference, which will mark the Golden Jubilee of the SSC.
